Knowing Chinese really helps with Japanese. It works as long as there's no 国訓 or 義訓 that you're not familiar with. But then there's always the context to help you out when those JP Kanji appear. Always been wondering what they were like and I have to say, they're pretty much just full fledged JP novels. Only difference is they have a few pictures in between pages. JP novels are so small compared to English ones. I like the glossy cover they usually come with, though.
