It’s been a long journey, (probably longer than necessary due to the Xingke arc) but it’s finally over. The ending doesn’t come as a huge surprise. Although I do have some personal disappointments (poor Kallen ;_;), it was as a whole better than I had expected. Spoilers ahead.

Summary

Code Geass R2
She finally stops being annoying

Lelouch has to resort to using Geass on Nunnally, because he lacks the physical strength to pry the Key of Damocles from a wheelchair-bound defenceless little girl. After successfully asserting his dominant role as the tough big brother, he enters the whole I-am-evil routine.

Code Geass R2
“Why didn’t anyone tell me I wasn’t the main character!?”

The episode goes into the pre-programmed “give everyone his/her allocated airtime to angst and reflect on the past” sequence, during which Kallen kicks Suzaku’s ass, and Orange and Loli have some weird chemistry going on between them, which is totally wtf.

Code Geass R2
BDSM Yaoi

With Damocles under his control, Lelouch declares himself ruler of the world. He rounds up all the people who opposed him and sets up a kinky public parade to probably execute them or something.

Code Geass R2
Lee Harvey Oswald or Claus von Stauffenberg?

Zero makes a sudden appearance and kills Lelouch. The world goes wtf, and the end! What a shocking ending! The crowd goes wild!

Code Geass R2

Okay, so Zero is really Suzaku in disguised. This is all part of Lelouch’s plan for world peace. The world rallies around Zero and everyone is happy and wears black suits! Woohoo! And Lelouch survives too.

Thoughts

Code Geass R2
The anguish!

As I said, it’s not a bad ending. It’s rather grand and exciting, but it sort of doesn’t give the feeling of satisfaction for some reason. Like how Nunnally realizes too late that her brother is a Good Guy, and how Kallen will now forever be single because she can’t help but compare every guy she meets with her memories of Lelouch, and touch herself at night in naughty ways while looking at his photos.

Code Geass R2
The South shall rise!

Kallen and Suzaku repeat their whole debate over violent rebellion versus working peacefully to improve the system from within. This is rather like the American Civil War. Do states have the right to unilaterally reject federal laws that they perceive to be unconstitutional, and to secede from the Union if they feel that their rights are not being protected? Is armed struggle a valid option? So I guess what I am saying is that the Black Knights are like the Confederacy, except they aren’t white supremacists; they are black.

Code Geass R2
She stole Nunnally’s crane

As for Lelouch, I’m pretty sure he survives. I mean, I realize that C.C.’s closing remarks are intentionally vague, but they do strongly suggest that she is having regular sex with Lelouch on haystacks while travelling around rural Japan. Furthermore, from a point of common sense (which doesn’t always works in anime but whatever), if the technology exists to resurrect Orange, to let Sayoko act as Lelouch’s body double, and to build a gigantic orbital space station that can flatten the world, then surely there must be some way for Lelouch to fake his public death?

Code Geass R2
Separation of church and state

Perhaps Lelouch’s Geass reached its final stage and now he’s invulnerable (or however this Code Geass gibberish works). This means that he probably gave Suzaku the power of Geass, which makes sense if you consider the fact that Suzaku has to somehow conceal his identity as Zero from the entire world, a feat Lelouch managed only with the use of Geass.

IANACGEBIPOOMB (I Am Not A Code Geass Expert But I Play One On My Blog), but assuming my wild conjecture is true, then this means that Lelouch and C.C. have the rest of eternity to get tired of having sexual intercourse while lying on dead plant materials and awkwardly fumbling each other’s unclothed body.

Code Geass R2
Poor Kallen is pretending to be happy :(

I’m sure there are people who wish to disagree for the sake of it, but my personal interpretation of the ending is that Lelouch is alive with C.C., which I think is rather unfair to Kallen. Can’t they at least bring her along for a threesome? :(

Old rivalries will finally be settled once and for all, the dead have started to rise from their graves, and the last boss is revealed; everything is coming to an end. Or perhaps it has already ended. Spoilers ahead.

Summary

Code Geass R2

Xingke, always too willing to be manipulated, ambushes and boards the Avalon with the pathetic remnants of the Black Knights. It is quite clear that Schneizel has no intention of halting his FLEIA spam just to let Xingke rescue his precious loli, so this is a rather suicidal move.

Code Geass R2
This thing is three episodes late

Nina finally completes her anti-FLEIA device, what I call the Lance of Longinus. But she has no time to write an auto-configuration programme, so the input parameters for the device must be manually entered by hand. And instead of being attached to a guided missile warhead, the lance has to be hand-thrown by a Knightmare. Then again, Evangelion did it first.

Thanks to Nina’s design, Lelouch’s record-breaking typing speed, and Suzaku’s throw, the Avalon survives complete annihilation, thus saving the lives of Xingke and friends. How ironic.

Code Geass R2
“Who could’ve imagined that our sole weak point would be used against us?”

Like all superweapons of doom, the Damocles has the most powerful offence and defence capabilities but suffers from a single fatal flaw: it has to open its shields to fire FLEIA. Since nothing can penetrate Damocles’ shields while they are up, Schneizel should’ve waited until it is in the safety of low-Earth orbit, beyond the operating height of Knightmares, before trying to kill Lelouch with FLEIA. But I guess he, like the designers of the Death Star and its exhaust port, wants to give the protagonist a chance to win.

Code Geass R2
Love rivalry turns ugly

C.C. and Kallen fight over the right to Lelouch’s virginity. It is quite obvious that the new pink Knightmare was introduced just to sell more toys for Bandai because it does absolutely nothing. C.C. gets owned before you can say “catfight”. This is what you get when you spend decades eating pizza and sleeping.

Code Geass R2
“Lelouch, behind you!”

Lelouch manages to Geass Schneizel, thus putting an end to this whole story… Oh wait. Schneizel, in spite of his selfish genius, did not plan for a manual override to the Key of Damocles. Hence, Nunnally is the last boss. How shocking.

Thoughts

I find it hard to believe that Lelouch could’ve predicted the content of his conversation of Schneizel down to the exact words used. Perhaps Lelouch is speaking through a microphone to a silent pre-recorded movie with advanced lip-syncing technology. Oh well.

Code Geass R2
Terrifying

For some reason, I’m not too excited about the last episode. I’m not even sure what kind of ending I’m hoping for any more. It seems to me that the only real obstacle left to a happy ending is poor misguided Nunnally, whom I can’t convince myself is a threat of any significance.

Maybe it’s just me, but I prefer it when Lelouch pulls off a complete turnabout from utter hopelessness and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Nunnally is just too loli a last boss to provide that kind of threat, thus a happy ending probably won’t be very satisfying. (“Oh great you defeated a little girl.”) Therefore I predict a tragic ending and everyone dies in the FLEIA!

I can’t imagine any happy ending for this series without some kind of world resetting event that brings everyone back to life with lots of happy thoughts and lolipops, and at this point of time I don’t think I give a damn anymore. This trainwreck has continued for so long that even the vengeful spirits of its passengers have since died of old age.

Summary & Thoughts

Code Geass R2
The eye motif is not working for me

Basically, Lelouch the Closet Siscon fights out against Schneizel the Super Villain and the Black Knights. There’s nothing much to talk about. This is one of those prelude-to-the-finale episodes where the characters clear up some loose ends before going into battle and dying for one last time, hopefully this time for real.

Code Geass R2
Centrifugal force is a myth

Schneizel reveals his grant plan for world domination and eternal peace: nuke everyone from orbit with FLEIAs. This is a brilliant plan worthy of his statue as the scheming supervillain character, and I’m sure no one has ever thought of it before. I can’t believe Lelouch is losing to this ass clown who doesn’t even have Geass. This is almost as ridiculous as Lelouch’s new outfit!

More Thoughts

Code Geass R2
“Gah. Look at I. I the stupid”

It seems to me that the Britannia family suffers from a chronic mental illness that results in rapid degradation of cognitive capabilities whenever the magical plot device calls for it. Take Cornelia for example: she was at one point in R2 an epitome of the take-shit-from-no-one bad-ass attitude. She single-handedly uncovered her father’s hidden conspiracy and broke into a top secret high-tech military facility with a frigging sword. But for no particular reason, she’s now Schneizel’s bitch because he’s oh so charming. (Or she was anyway.)

Code Geass R2
The saviours of humanity

Nunnally is another idiot. “Oh god, my brother Lelouch, the person who has always loved me and cared for me since our mother died, did so many terrible things and even lied to me! Lied to me! I shall instead place my trust in my brother Schneizel, who has amassed an arsenal of black-hole bombs powerful enough to destroy the whole planet, out of the kindness of his pure heart and selfless philanthropy. This guy deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.”

Code Geass R2
I bet this time she’s finally going to die for real

And did I mention how retarded the entire Black Knights were again? “This Schneizel dude just blew up his own frigging homeland without batting an eyelid. He has enough super bombs left to flatten the whole of Japan, but we are going to team up with him against Lelouch because Lelouch lied to us for all these years and made us into this powerful supernational political entity against our free will! Our free will! Also, he kidnapped Kaguya! Kaguya, the young and innocent loli princess! How dare he!?”

“Yeah! Who cares what trigger-happy Schneizel will do to our precious Japan, which we have fought so long and hard for, with his doomsday devices, as long as we get to exact revenge on Lelouch, a guy who has given us everything we have, including our pathetic lives.”

Go on. Blow everyone up. I don’t even care anymore.

“ICHI-JOU!”

It’s cool that Lelouch is all anti-hero and I-am-the-boss now, but there’s just something wrong about this whole situation. Too-busy-for-haircuts Charles was a much more interesting antagonist than pretty-boy Schneizel, mainly because Norio Wakamoto is also the voice behind Onsokumaru and that hard-boiled penguin from Gunparade Orchestra.

Summary

Code Geass R2
Everyone’s like “ALL HAIL LELOUCH” now, but no one ever said “ALL HAIL CHARLES”

It’s time for world domination. Having done away with titles and nobilities, Britannia is now a socialist dictatorship with Lelouch as the Dear Leader. Now that he has total control of the Fatherland, discretion is no longer a necessity and finesse is for pussies.

Code Geass R2
“I can’t believe I came all this way just to voice one line!”

In less than 5 minutes of airtime, the remaining Circularly-Shaped Knights fall at the hands of the great Japanese-born Knight of Zero, Saitou Hiraga. Some of them have waited the entire season to make their debut only to be blown apart after delivering just one line of predictable cliché, but that’s life for you. It’s not these people’s fault for failing so hard in life; it’s the changing paradigm, the evolution of technology, and that goddamn noob, Suzaku, cheating in his new ride powered by the almighty plot device.

Code Geass R2
“Democracy is for noobs. Let’s decide this with good old hoop-shootin'”

Lelouch wants Britannia to join the United Federation of Nations and for the whole world to unite as one big happy family ruled under his iron fist. Kaguya, torn between her pubescent feelings for Zero-sama and her duty as the Leader of The Free Worldâ„¢, is highly confused and somewhat aroused by Lelouch’s aggressive advances.

Code Geass R2
“Please insert brain(s)”

Some people (“the sheep”) see Lelouch as the defender of justice who has successfully reformed Britannia and freed the Numbers of the world, and are eager to let the reborn Britannia into the exclusive club of democratic nations, while others remain sceptical. Tamaki is an exception in that he has no opinions of his own and is merely a hollow apparition feeding on the hopes and dreams of others.

Code Geass R2
IT TOOK HER LONG ENOUGH

Kallen bids a sad symbolic farewell to the object of her sexual affection, but we all know that she will come around by the next episode. I mean, didn’t she go through this whole melodramatic routine like ten times before? Oh, Lelouch, you’re such a fool. Unlike other love comedy male leads who have to make tough decisions and choose one girl from dozens, your load is a lot lighter thanks to Sunrise’s wanton killing of side characters. Just pick one already you bastard.

Code Geass R2
They got rickrolled by Schneizel

The episode ends with some shenanigans from the Schneizel camp. But seriously, after the entire Geass issue was abruptly “settled” in the last episode, Schneizel’s oh-look-at-me-being-evil thing just pales in comparison. So what if he has a flying fortress that can blow up entire cities? He has no glowing eyes!

Thoughts

Code Geass R2
How did he convince those people to put on those clothes without using his Geass?

Uh. So will we ever find out where Geass came from? Or will the rest of the episodes simply play out between too-cool-for-britannia Schneizel ratface and bad-fashion-sense-redux Lelouch? Frankly, I was expecting something deeper and more philosophical at the end. Considering how much they’ve been hyping the personal relationships surrounding Geass over the course of the series, I would be sorely disappointed if the ending turned out to be some gigantic mecha battle gibberish and explosions.

Code Geass R2
She’s out of a job

Like, what’s C.C. supposed to do now that the faux-social-darwinist human-instrumentality-project Charles and his lovely wife are trapped for good in the infinite beyond. Look cute and make snide remarks? (That said, I do like it better now that C.C. is back to her usual cynical self.)

Code Geass R2
“Obey me for ever! And overlook this huge plothole!”

Also, How the hell does Lelouch remove both his contacts so quickly? There aren’t even enough finger space to go around! Remember back in Season 1 when Euphie died (omg spoiler) and we were all like “ZOMG LELOUCH CAN’T CONTROL HIS GEASS NOW?” Well, I feel cheated. :(

The Big Revelation episode. I can’t say that it comes as a surprise considering how much the story has hinted at it, especially since I was never really convinced that Charles was evil. He lacks Schneizel’s eyes, and that hairdo is just begging to be not taken seriously.

I’m sure everyone has already watched the episode by now, so I will not try to work around the spoilers this time, since the entire episode is basically one huge spoiler.

Summary

Code Geass R2
The Central Dogma

Enclosed within the enigmatic Central Dogma that lies deep beneath the surface of reality, Gendou and Shinji Ikari have a father-to-son chat over the future of humanity. Gendou is trying to activate the final stage of the Human Instrumentality Project, widely known as the Third Impact.

Code Geass R2
She was in EVA-01 all along

They are soon joined by the physical manifestation of Yui Ikari‘s spirit, who has long been hidden in the body of another after her mysterious death. It turns out that Gendou, despite his self-scripted cold-hearted nature, has never stopped loving Yui. Shinji is shocked to discover that his long-dead mother has been so close to him all these years, and that the father he so despised turns out to be merely misunderstood.

Code Geass R2
Yggdrasil, the World Tree

With Rei Ayanami, the immortal Lilith, as the catalyst of the final stage, and Gendou at the controls, the Human Instrumentality Project is about to reach completion. Although the original plan calls for the unity of Adam and EVA-01 in achieving this, circumstances have changed and the improvisation will be sufficient for Gendou’s intention. Absolute Territory Field, the invisible metaphysical barrier that separates the collective consciousness of mankind into unique independent individuals is about to be destroyed, and all evils will be removed from the world. Gendou is about to create a kind world where tragedies such as the one his family went through will never again happen.

Code Geass R2
Asuka in EVA-02 surveys the fallen bodies of the mass production EVAs

But the very desire for peace and kindness will be erased by the removal of individuality. Hatred will disappear, but so will love. Shinji, though temporarily overwhelmed by the futility of his past actions, realizes that this is not the kind of world he wished for when he fought for peace. He declares his intention to stop his father’s actions, which he sees as a selfish desire that Gendou is trying to force upon the world.

Code Geass R2
“Sorry Gendou, I like them young”

Rei, though she has an emotionless exterior, is deeply in love with Shinji, the son of the woman who gave her life. She betrays the trust of Gendou and helps hand the keys to humanity’s future to Shinji.

Real Summary

Replace Shinji with Lelouch, Gendou with Charles, Rei with C.C. and Yui with Marianne. I guess Kallen is Asuka, but I’m not comfortable with it because I hate Asuka. The analogy kind of falls apart when it comes to Suzaku, the extra guy. Oh well. Maybe he’s Gendou’s former bitch, Ritsuko.

Serious Lelouch is serious

Not a particularly exciting episode, but Marianne finally makes an appearance, sort of. I can’t imagine how this is all going to end. For one thing, I don’t see any role for Kallen in the grand finale that’s being played out between the old man, the ambitious elder brother, and that good-for-nothing son who likes to play dress-up. :(

Summary

Code Geass R2
In real life, Suzaku would be a short Asian character and a whole lot less menacing

Suzaku is fashionably late in finally losing his cool and deciding to wipe out all Geass by force, considering the fact that Cornelia and Lelouch already went through this phase many aeon/episodes ago.

Code Geass R2
Not buttoning your shirt is an offence punishable by death

Schneizel reveals his hand without much fanfare and casually launches a coup d’etat over a spot of tea in the recreation room. “About that time eh chaps?” “…Righto.” I wonder how much he actually knows about this whole Geass business, like the fact that his father is immortal and is kind of hard to assassinate.

Code Geass R2
It’s like Destiny Gundam except with more hair

The old man is busy playing with his toys, which just happen to be million-year-old ruins that might just wipe out humanity through a Third Impact that makes us lose our precious AT Fields. I mean Ragnarok or whatever. I still have no idea what that this whole show is about, other than Kallen.

Code Geass R2
Maybe the sliding eye piece broke

Lelouch is acting all bad-ass for now and frankly he should be invincible now that he has apparently lost everything that was once precious to him. He is like Batman, whose girlfriend died and who now has nothing important to him that can be taken hostage by his enemies, except maybe good old Alfred. But of course that’s what Lelouch (and Bruce Wayne) thinks. C.C. and Kallen are on their way! (And Batman is totally going to fall in love with a new girl in the next movie.)

Anyway Lelouch and the old geezer are going to spend the rest of eternity together. How gay.

Thoughts

Lelouch finally realizes something that he has overlooked all this time: instead of wasting his one-use Geass on a single order, he can simply order the person to obey him forever! (Plot hole alert.)

Code Geass R2
“Yo, C.C. I, like, totally missed having hot lesbian sex with you”

And now that the mysterious Marianne has revealed her personality to be that of a high school girl on steroids, the illusion of dignified royal grace and beauty has been shattered and the image of the Britannia lineage suffers another mortal wound. Lelouch’s whole family is fricking insane, which makes one wonder what dark shameful secrets Euphie bore.

Code Geass R2
Cornelia has very flexible eyes

After being showered with attention and glory to a level normally reserved for the main characters, and subsequently thrown aside with little afterthoughts by the cruel whims of the Power That Be (i.e. the producers), Xingke looks like he may yet play some mildly important role in the final encounter. Yeah, he probably gets to kite the annoying little spawns while the real hero tanks the last boss.

Everything is just fine

Shit hits the fan. Big time. This is not your usual run-of-the-mill rotary cooling device-feces collision; it’s more like if Godzilla takes the mother of all dump on an Airbus A380’s Engine Alliance GP7000 turbofan jet engine, while you, the unfortunate witness, are standing literally five metres away minding your own business one moment and covered with radioactive lizard waste the next.

That said, it is a pretty good episode. The emo level is higher than 9000 pale teenagers simultaneously slitting their wrists the wrong way.

Summary

There’s actually nothing much to summarize in this episode. I mean, nothing of great importance really happens.

Code Geass R2
“OBJECTION!”

Except maybe for the tiny unimportant fact that everyone in the Black Knights now knows that Lelouch is a Britannian prince who had been using them as pawns in a giant game of chess, and that Lelouch is is clearly cheating because no one, not even the king of Britannia who invented the damn game, is allowed to have that many pawns in chess.

Code Geass R2

And oh yes, Rolo finally dies. But now that he is dead, I sort of miss him. I mean, he was the most annoying character in the entire show, but he did save Lelouch. Also he killed Shirley, which is a job well done in my book. Now that C.C. is somewhat out of the picture with her memory loss and Nunnally has apparently bitten the dust, Kallen is home free! You go girl!

Code Geass R2
Kallen, it’s your turn to shine!

I digress. Yeah, Rolo is dead. Oh well. The way he died sort of makes up for all his past annoyance, so I do feel kind of sad now. But it’s okay. He will live on in our memories and yaoi doujinshi.

Code Geass R2
He lived pretty long for a character introduced to die

Thoughts

This episode is seriously good. Lelouch has finally fulfilled the prophecy of the power of Geass and lost everything that is important to him. As I’ve said before, Lelouch loses the most when he tries to be good. If he were completely ruthless and evil, he’d have taken over the world three times over by now with his Geass. It’s this alternating between heartless bastard and self-sacrificing nice guy that messes up all his plans.

Let’s see what he has lost so far…

Nunnally is either dead or trapped in an alternate universe where she is probably being thoroughly violated by sixth dimensional tentacle beings.

Code Geass R2
Lelouch can take C.C. and open up a maid cafe

C.C. has lost her tsundere personality and is more like a submissive pet now. Lelouch is deeply masochistic and therefore cannot possibly love someone who doesn’t spend all her time putting him down.

Shirley is dead and given a proper burial so that she cannot ever rise from the dead Sunrise style. Good grief.

Code Geass R2
Don’t be pussies, guys. This guy sounds legit

The Black Knights, a bunch of mindless drones who will believe anything, have turned against Zero in a blink of an eye without much serious consideration.

What Lelouch has left:

His life. This is an important thing because without it he pretty much can’t survive.

His campy outfit. It gives him stat boosts, which will be crucial when he has to both tank and heal while fighting the final instance boss.

Code Geass R2

Jeremiah and maybe Suzaku if he doesn’t turn batshit crazy. Woot yaoi fan fiction.

Code Geass R2
“I will protect Zero with my bosoms”

Kallen’s undying love. He should just elope with her and raise a family in some faraway land, like Hokkaido.

And Milly! Yes I can see it now. This is so going to be the final ending!

A cute Valkyrie pilot you will never see again

Some episodes of Code Geass brings enlightenment, others bring fanservice. Some have intricate story telling, others help to bring characters to life. This episode does none of the above. However, it is easily one of the most awesome episodes ever. It takes the extravagant route and fulminates with the incandescence of a great gross luminous celestial plasma balls. Yes, it has tons of explosions.

Summary

Tokyo is under attack by terrorists! City defences are down due to the Gefjun Disturbers, which conveniently do not affect the Black Knights’ machines due to plot magic hocus pocus.

Code Geass R2
Is that a kerosene lamp?

As far as I know, Gefjun Disturber prevents Sakuradite-powered devices from working. Apparently the concept of backup (hydrogen fuel?) generators and lithium ion batteries no longer exists, as the whole city is thrown into darkness by the Disturbers. I can’t believe that everything in Tokyo is powered by Sakuradite and that the power generators for the entire city also happen to be located inside the city. I digress.

Code Geass R2
Everyone’s here

Anyway what follows is a whirlwind of fight scenes that sort of resembles a fan fiction where all the important characters show up at the same place and engage in an orgy of destruction.

Code Geass R2
Why is he the only one not wearing a mask?

Meanwhile, Rolo is doing his best to locate Nunnally…to kill her! Dun Dun Dun! What a surprise. Lelouch is an idiot.

Code Geass R2
Pure ownage in red

The best part of course is that Kallen is back in action! Her Guren has been given a free upgrade courtesy of Lloyd (and Cecile) into Guren S.E.I.T.E.N. Eight Elements-Type. It’s sort of like Freedom: it has wings, it fires its hand like a funnel and it basically overpowers every existing Knightmare in the show. Woohoo.

Code Geass R2
My prediction has not come true yet

And some annoying and useless characters are finally put to rest.

Thoughts

Code Geass R2
O_O

Lelouch’s momentary acts of kindness always come to bite him in the ass. His latest screw up has totally triumphed his previous record of accidentally setting Euphie on a massacre. Good job. Anyway, I thought Geass are supposed to have a time limit? Or did I imagine that?

Guren is clearly a case of Sunrise’s Law of Robotics at work. It won’t be long before Lancelot gets an even better upgrade, after which after one else gets an upgrade, and we are all back at square one.

I foresee much speculations over what Freyja actually does. Maybe it’s just a portal to another dimension.

Also, look forward to domestic violence and child abuse in the next episode!

The new United Federation of Nations launches an attack on Area 11. Nothing really interesting happens. Knight of One has Excalibur, which he totally stole from Suzaku’s cat.

Code Geass R2
“No Suzaku! Someone might see us here…”

Yet another misunderstanding widens the colossal gap between Lelouch and Suzaku, driving the two former lovers farther apart. When everything comes to an end, will they once again find warmth in the embrace of each other? Or will the cruel spike walls of conservative Britannian society prevent their deviant feelings from becoming reality? Stay tune to find out.

Code Geass R2
Kallen, your time will soon be here!

Zino (or however his name is spelt) is apparently related to the Ashfords? He’s also being particularly friendly to Kallen… Looks like he has some other agenda than his obligations as a Knight of the Round. My guess is that he will go against the will of the Emperor and fight to realize the dream of his beloved Suzaku. He probably has some super awesome Knightmare Frame stashed away under Ashford Academy which he will lend to Kallen for great justice!

Code Geass R2
“Oh yes, don’t worry bro. I’ll ‘save’ her…”

And oh yeah, Lelouch assigned Rollo to lead Nunnally’s rescue mission. Uh, wtf? He has clearly forgotten about what happened to Shirley. Good bye Nunnally, you were the least annoying of all the lolis, although Kagura can be awesome sometimes.

Episode 16 is a delightful episode because Kallen gets to kick ass and C.C. has transformed into a Mikuru-class moé powerhouse. *Puppy eyes* Well, there are various other interesting happenings in this episode too, but I think we should all pay much respect to the amount of effort spent by Sunrise in animating C.C.’s shy disposition to adorable perfection.

Summary

Code Geass R2

The United Federation of Nations is officially formed, spanning most of Asia and great portions of Europe and Africa. The member states renounce all rights to the maintenance of military power, and all matters which require military force are voted upon to be delegated to the independent Order of the Black Knights.

Code Geass R2
Zero is the CEO

This is a rather convenient arrangement for Zero, and I guess it means that existing armies are to be integrated into the Black Knights, since I don’t think the existing ragtag band of former terrorists is anywhere close to being resourceful enough to protect such a huge patch of territory. The first motion passed by the nearly formed supernational body is a request for the Black Knights to liberate Japan.

Code Geass R2
Being number ten, he clearly has an inferiority complex

Britannia mobilizes its military in preparation for an invasion of Area 11 by the Black Knights. In particular, Knight of One Bismarck Waldstein and Knight of Ten Luciano Brandli have been dispatched to Area 11, which means that there are now five Knights in Tokyo. However, the Emperor has gone missing, presumably still trapped in the funky floating platform place, and they can’t declare war without his approval.

Code Geass R2
kamu~

C.C. is all cute and innocent now. After losing all her memories of being old and cranky, she’s now Lelouch’s willing sex slave. It’s like in Chobits—which incidentally is by CLAMP—except that, unlike Chii, C.C. is actually anatomically correct. (Probably.) Vulnerable C.C. will surely prove to be great doujinshi material for the coming Comiket.

Thoughts

Cute C.C. is cute.

The whole UFN thing reeks of corruption and cronyism, but apparently none of the member nations pay much attention to the fine print in the constitution. The Federation theoretically has no military power, so the member nations have to trust the Black Knights to defend them. Despite the apparently democratic nature of the supernational government, the Black Knights itself is basically a totalitarian organization and its high ranking members are all hand-picked by its unelected leader, Zero.

Code Geass R2
Brainwashing the masses with loli propagandists

The vote to retake Japan is also quite a sham, since Kaguya is the one who calls for it and she’s a little girl. Who can say no to a loli pleading for you to help save her homeland from evil Britannian paedophiles? Not to mention that a good majority of the current Black Knights are Japanese soldiers, so it’s not like the vote would’ve changed their minds either way.

Other than that, this is mostly a build-up episode and we shall have to wait to see how the invasion unfolds.
