From: "JOYCE K WAKABAYASHI" Subject: [Eva/Xover][FanFic] Tokyo-3 Babylon: Angel of Death This is a one shot mixture of X, Tokyo Babylon and Evangelion. It focuses on the Kaoru/Shinji and Seishirou/Subaru relationships. It's weird, I know. I just thought there was some interesting potentials. Tokyo-3 Babylon: Angel of Death Wandering through the park, a little boy was looking for his mother. "Kaasan, here are you?" He bumped into a strange young man with red eyes and grey hair. He had a beautific smile on his face, holding Shinji's mother in his arms like the Virgin Mary holding the dead Jesus. And like the dead Jesus, his mother was bleeding in several places. Yet, as a child, he didn't understand what had happened. The man put down the body, then turned to the little boy. "What a sweet, innocent little boy. I should kill you, but I won't. But we will meet again. For the moment, you're going to forget all about this unpleasant scene." With that, a swarm of white feathers swirled around him and he disappeared. *** Shinji was much older now. He was in his twenties, the innocent look he had was now changed into a look that seemed to show nothing but darkness. He was dressed in a long coat with black jeans and a white shirt. He took out a cigarette and lit it up. "Smoking's bad for you, Shinji-kun." He recognized that voice and looked up. A handsome young man with grey hair and smile was dressed in black with sunglasses to shield his sensitive red eyes. Shinji looked at him. "Kaoru Nagisa. . . No, your true name is Tabris Shito." "And so it is. Your sister, Rei, would scarcely recognize you." Shinji's face was still, but his pupils dilated from the emotional pain. "It's hard to see when one's buried underneath six feet of earth." "So, what are you here for?" "I want to kill you." With that, he created a star-shaped shield around the both of them so innocent people wouldn't be affected by their fight. Not that he particularly cared for other people anymore, but it was one thing he could point to that made him different from Kaoru. Then he threw the cigarette on the group and stomped on it, glaring at Kaoru. "I did ask as your sister asked. I'm sure she wouldn't want you to throw your life on something like this." He's just trying to make you lose your concentration, Shinji thought. He took several paper wards with the Tree of Life symbol on it and threw it at Kaoru. They turned into birds, purple, red, blue and gold. Kaoru smiled and released his own paper wards with the sign of a simple red cross with a black circle behind it. They turned into malignant looking white birds that not only destroyed the birds, but ripped them open savagely.. Shinji frowned. He recited a spell, flung a knife which suddenly shined brightly, but Kaoru warded it off with a raised hexagonal shield. "You've improved. . . a little," said Kaoru. Shinji then recited another spell and this time an A five pointed star formed around Kaoru. If I can just contain him, he thought. Come on, concentrate, if I can just nullify his power for a just a few seconds. . . Kaoru broke the AT field that was put around him by Shinji by sheer force. The force hit Shinji in the stomach and threw him back. Shinji held his stomach, it was bleeding. "Damn it." God, Rei, I've failed, he thought. Kaoru took his time walking over to him, whistling Beethoven's Ode to Joy. Kaoru bent down over and got so close that just an inch further, he could've kissed Shinji. Shinji tried to attack him, but Kaoru held Shinji's wrists. "I don't know why, but I think Kamisama meant for you and me to be connected like this I can't say I'm not pleased." Then Kaoru stood up and stepped back. "See you later." With that, Kaoru disappeared in a cloud of white feathers.. Shinji did what he swore he would never do. He cried. *** That night, he remembered what Kaoru had told him the last time they had seen each other when Rei was still alive. He had gone to the hospital where Kaoru was healing from blocking an attack on Shinji by a deranged woman. He had visited him in his hospital room. Kaoru opened his eyes. Kaoru had "How long have we known each other?" "About a year," said Shinji. And it had been a wonderful year. Rei had teased Shinji that about his attraction towards Kaoru while Kaoru had teased him about getting married. He remembered that Kaoru had said that somehow they would always be connected. He was happy living with Rei and Kaoru, all of them together. They had even bathed together. Kaoru had shown no shame about their relationship. He had spent most of his life alone, but now he had a friend, no, someone even closer. "I see. I've been counting the days, myself. It's been precisely a year. I've got something to say to you." "What?" The smile on his face was serene and sweet, but the words were sheer poison. "I'm here to kill you. I'm the Angel of Death." "Don't joke around like this." Shinji had been confused, had the attack messed with his mind? "I'm the 17th generation of the Shito clan. We kill according to the orders we receive from Kami-sama. But the clan of Ikari was established to thwart Kamisama's will. This can't be allowed." "Then why wait a year to kill me?" Shinji began to back away to the door. "I was trying to be merciful." "Merciful?" "Kamisama gives someone like me a little latitude when it comes to my work. I used it in this instance. I was hoping that you wouldn't be strong enough to be a threat. Also, I met you a long time before. I'll unseal those memories." Shinji saw himself standing as a little boy before the man holding his mother's corpse. Kaoru said, "I would've killed you, but I hesitated and wondered why. I told myself that I would wait at least ten years, then spend a year with you. If I didn't feel anything more than the what I feel towards any of Kamisama's other creations, then I would have to kill you. I'm sorry, but at least this way you'll reach Heaven." He jumped up from bed, seemingly already healed. Shinji screamed at the revelations. He was so stunned that he didn't bother to raise his arms to ward Kaoru's approaching blow. Then an AT field sprang between him and Kaoru's raised hand. "Hmmm, your sister Rei's protecting you. Well, I'll just wait until later, Shinji-kun." Kaoru then disappeared in a sea of feathers. Shinji began to weep. I've been betrayed. I've been utterly betrayed by the person that means most to me. By the time, Rei had made her way to the hospital room, Kaoru had already left and Shinji was in a coma, created out of grief and fear. He didn't know how long he was in the coma when he heard a voice calling. It was Rei's voice, begging him to wake up. He had a vision where she was standing in front of the Shito, dressed in white, the color of death. "Why are you here? You're not officially part of the Ikari clan and not part of this fight." "It doesn't matter. I want to trade my life for Shinji's." "You are serious?" "Yes." "Of course, if he comes after me to kill me, I'm going to kill him in self- defense." "But in every other instance, you're not going to touch him. He doesn't have to worry about you hunting him or hurting him." "If you are serious about this bargain, then I'll do it. Under these circumstances, this is no way I will renege on my promise. When the price is this high, Shitos keep their promises. Kamisama would never forgive me if I didn't keep a bargain once made. Besides, the backlash of the spell you've set up to ensure my compliance would be quite a handful to deal with." "I sense you are telling the truth. Proceed." "Rei, don't!!!" screams Shinji. He saw Kaoru plunge his fist through her, causing her to bleed, looking like mother had when he had seen her in the park so long ago. He woke from his coma, but he knew that it was no mere dream. He began to weep. She did that to wake me up, to show me that there are still things I can lose, he thought. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. The ferocious expression on his face was frightening to see. His heart was not just shattered, it had been anihillated. "I'm going to kill him." he said. THE END
