He came to work early, did his job, and went home to his average wife and two point five kids. His third child was due in two months, but he had already managed to take him as a tax deduction on last years taxes. He'll be in big trouble if it turns out to be a girl. Nothing really exciting happened in his job. He pushed paper around from one person to another, never caring what lives he destroyed and what lives he saved with a meaningless stamp of approval or rejection. What did he care of the people who he dealt with, they had more money than he'd ever see. As the clock struck six, he turned off his computer and walked out of his little cubicle. He sighed heavily as he walked towards the elevators. He exchanged a tired smile with his other co-workers. Only a few of which knew his name and he knew even fewer of theirs. After the doors opened, they piled into the elevator and someone pressed the button for the lobby. Several more people pressed it again as they got in, as if it would get them home faster if they pressed it over and over. A part of Hiroshi's mind wanted to crush those god damn button pushers in the hand of a giant robot, but he could only dream of that. Hiroshi was thrilled to see that Sana had managed to squeeze into the elevator with him and tried to slide closer to her, but that asshole Toma was in the way as usual. He always seemed to be pressed up against Sana. A bigger part of Hiroshi's mind wanted to crush Toma under the foot of a giant robot, but he could only dream of that. He could also only dream of Sana while he made love to his wife tonight, assuming she was in the mood. He sighed inwardly; it wouldn't be the same. His wife didn't have those nice big bouncy boobs that Anime women did... like Sana did. The doors opened and he made his way home with the other drones. As he walked with the other office workers towards the train station, he suddenly stopped. After several people crashed into him, he moved out of the way of the surging masses. He looked at the theater across the street. He couldn't believe that he had almost forgotten that tonight was the opening of THE movie. He had waited months for this and he had almost forgotten to go and see it. His wife would be mad at him missing dinner, but he couldn't wait any longer to see it. Anime was his one escape from reality. Well, that and fantasizing about Sana, but that wasn't really reality, was it? He made his way across the street and bought a ticket. He managed to find a seat on the side and looked up at the screen with anticipation. It seemed like an eternity until the lights came down and the half-hour of previews started. * * * Hiroshi stared at the blank screen in shock. This was what he waited so long for? This was what happened to the characters he had grown to love and hate? The animation was fantastic and it was a good movie by itself, but left an empty feeling in the pit of his stomach. He had expected so much more. Or at the very least, a smaller body count. He left the empty theater only after the ushers insisted he leave after the last showing. Seeing it a second time didn't change the bad feeling it left within him. He wandered slowly to the train station and continued to reflect on the movie. Something in him insisted on revenge for what the movie's creators had done, but giant robots were hard to come by. He sighed heavily as he got onto the almost empty train. He glanced at a clock as he got off the train and swore silently. "Miaka is going to kill me for getting back so late." He again wished he had a giant robot available to save him from his life. * * * The next morning, Hiroshi sat down in his cubicle and rested his head on the desktop. Miaka had really tore him a new one last night, he had half expected her to pull out a mallet and pound him to death, but then she wasn't as cute as Akane. "Sato! Wake up and get to work!" his boss snapped. Hiroshi snapped to attention and looked over to see Sana in the entrance to his cubicle. "Sorry, sir. I was up late looking over some reports," he lied. "What are you working on?" He thought quickly. "Um, I've been tracking a company's profits and can't seem to reconcile them with their reported income." Lie number two. "Who is it?" "Um, I haven't pulled the final numbers yet and am still trying to nail the parent company, so I'd rather not say." Lie number three. Sana suspected he was lying, but decided to give him a break. "Okay, let me see what you have by three." "Yes, sir." The tall leggy woman turned and left him alone in his cubicle. When she was out of sight, Hiroshi finally relaxed. Well, most of him relaxed. Then the situation sunk in. How was he going to get out of this one? If he screwed this up he'd never get a change to screw Sana. Of course, this assumed he ever had a chance in hell before now. He went down to the records room and spent the rest of the morning searching the files for anything out of place that he could use to get out of this mess. As he flipped through the files, a name caught his eye. He grinned. Perfect. * * * "Here you go. This company has been evading their taxes for years. If you look at column..." "I can read, Sato!!" Sana snapped and crossed her long legs as she scanned the file. Hiroshi gulped and waited nervously for her to finish. "Nice work, Hiroshi. They hid this incredibly well, whatever made you suspect them?" Hiroshi smiled. "Oh, just a hunch." "Nice hunch," Sana said, then reached over to her intercom. "Rumi, we're going to need a full audit team immediately." "Yes, Ms. Testero," the intercom replied. "Nicely done. Care to join me at Shin's tonight to celebrate?" the woman of Hiroshi's dreams asked. "Yes, I'd like that," he replied. * * * Hiroshi walked down the street, smiling broadly. This was not something he usually did after work. In his mind he kept picturing a giant purple robot destroying the headquarters of a certain anime production company called Gainax. He may not have a giant robot, but he had the power of the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau behind him. It wasn't the same as a giant robot, but an audit seemed a fitting punishment for what they did to the characters he loved in End of Evangelion. Hell, even the characters he loved to hate deserved a better ending. Well, Gendou got what he had coming. And now he was finally going to get Sana into bed. His life was now perfect. He opened the door to the bar that Sana had asked to meet him at and recoiled when he saw what awaited him. Sana was there, but so was Toma and others from his office. "Huh?" When they saw him enter, they all started to clap for him. "Way to go, Hiroshi!" Sana congratulated him with a firm handshake. "Err... thanks," Hiroshi replied as he saw his night of ecstasy with Sana go up in smoke. Oh, well... maybe he could find a few banks to audit. He was sure Sana would get really turned on over that and she would finally be his. A few banks going bankrupt wouldn't hurt anything, would it? ======================================================================= Daily Yomiuri (Friday, November 13, 1998, page 2) ----------------- Animation company accused of tax evasion Yomiuri Shimbun The Gainax animation production company, creator of the popular "Neon Genesis Evangelion," and the firm's president have been accused of allegedly concealing 1.5 billion yen in profits and evading 560 million in corporate taxes, sources said Thursday. Gainax has admitted the tax evasion and said it intended to submit a revised tax return, the sources said. The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau, which filed a complaint against Gainax with the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, inspected the Musashino, Tokyo-based company on Thursday. A Gainax public relations official refused to comment on the inspection. Gainax produces television programs and films, as well as developing software for personal computer games. The television program "Evangelion" became hugely popular after being broadcast for six months from autumn 1995. The company's sales boomed following the 1997 release of the "Evangelion" movie, which was followed by the release of a compact disc and other spin-off goods. The sources said Gainax chalked up a profit of more than 2 billion yen from August 1995 to July 1997, but padded its production costs to declare an income of only 500 million yen to 600 million yen. The company concealed part of the untaxed money in a safe deposit box. "Evangelion" is the story of a 14-year-old boy who fights mysterious enemies in Tokyo in 2015 with a flying robot named Eva. Its handling of such topics as religion, life, egotism and fights between parents and children won the film widespread acclaim, as well as numerous television and animation awards. The program ended without revealing the robot's real identity - an ending that generated controversy among fans. A book about the robot also sold well. ------------------- [End - Hiroshi Sato Gets His Revenge] ======================================================================= Neon Genesis Evangelion characters and situations created and Copyright by Gainax and Project Eva - Used without permission and I hope to god they never see this story. Author's notes/ramblings: The excerpt from the Daily Yomiuri is real, but Hiroshi Sato is all in my imagination. The article is actually somewhat amusing to read in how it describes Eva. All names in this fic are taken from various anime video credits and characters unrelated to Eva. The idea for this story came after hearing about Gainax's tax problems and seeing a fansub of End of Evangelion. The final movie did provide an actual ending that the TV series lacked, but it still left me feeling empty and wasn't what I was hoping for (even though what I heard about it beforehand made me suspect it wasn't going to have a WAFF ending). After seeing the movie, I imagined that there would be many fans angry about what happened. So, this story was born in my twisted mind and I was forced to write it. Poor Hiroshi caused the collapse of the Japanese banking industry and still didn't get to bang Sana. Revenge is sweet, but not as sweet as Sana's (or Misato's) melons.
