From: The Lone Gunman Subject: [Eva][FanFic] And then... Prologue and Part 2 Well...the first two parts didn't make it to RAAC....so I'm gonna try again. I just went ahead and put the two parts in one post...since the prologue IS rather short. Feedback appreciated: Regulus@DigiCron.com ------------------- Ikari Shinji...was dead. Most of the head personnel at NERV had shown up for the burial. Neither Rei or Gendo had shown up. That irked Misato more than she could say. Maya cried into Hyuuga's chest. He put an arm around her, sighing. The three technicians were taking it far better than she was. Misato had spent countless hours crying after the incident happened. Considering it had only been two days, she was doing a good job sucking it up...or at least appaearing to. Pen Pen had spent most of that time being held by her, being squeezed harder than he would've liked to have been. And Asuka..... Misato looked back at Unit-02's pilot. She was staring at Shinji's grave. She had been completely silent. Which, for her, was quite the accomplishment. The auburn-haired girl slowly took a few steps. She stopped when she was at the Major's side. They stayed that way for quite some time, even after the services ended. Misato felt a hand on her shoulder. She didn't bother turning her head. "Major....I'm...we're all...terribly upset at this. The commander would've been here except.." "Shut up, Fuyutski," she said, quietly. The sub-commander took a step back. Misato continued, "No matter in the world should be as important as this one. His own son died and he doesn't give enough of a damn to even show up. That man has no heart. He's as bad as the angels. Cold, uncaring, and only watching out for himself." Fuyutski sighed. "Katsuragi, as much as you may like to think otherwise, the Commander does have feelings." "Bullshit." The Sub-commander once again sighed, before turning around and walking to his airlift back to NERV HQ. A few minutes passed after that. A cold wind blowing through the two women's hair. Both were in black dresses. Misato had a black veil, which had since been taken off. Misato looked down at Asuka, who had the same expressionless look on her face that'd been there since Shinji's death. The older put a hand on the younger's back and, without a word, they turned to go back home. ------------------------------------ And Then... Part 2... "Misato" Katsuragi drove herself and Asuka back home. Both of them silent the whole way. The Major was worried about the Second Child. She had never seen her this upset before and frankly, it was getting to her. She didn't know what to do or say... She quickly looked over at her. The same expressionless look she had on during the funeral. She sighed inwardly as they neared the apartment. Sometime around an hour later, after they had both changed, Asuka finally spoke. "Why?" Misato looked up. "Why what?" Asuka had her arms crossed on the table where they were both sitting, with her head resting between them. "Why Shinji?" Her voice was soft. Subdued. It didn't sound like her, the older thought. Misato pondered the younger's question awhile before speaking up. "It....was just his time I guess..." "His TIME?!" Asuka raised her head, her eyes full of fire. "HIS TIME?! He was fourteen years old! What the hell kind of justice is THAT?!" "Asuka, calm down, I..." "Like hell I will!" she yelled, slamming her fist to the table with a thunk. "He shouldn't've been taken god dammit! Not this soon!" She slunk down in her seat. She was quiet for at least a minute. The silence was deafening. When the 14 year old finally lifted her head, Misato saw tears in her eyes. She looked over to the Major. /God..../ Misato thought, looking at Asuka, frowning. /Did she...?/ She stood up and took a step. Her question was answered when the Second Child stood, ran to her, and cried. After a brief sob session, which they both needed, she saw Asuka off to bed and went to her own. She stared up at the ceiling. /No more hearing his voice.....no more seeing his face..../ She wiped the oncoming tears from her eyes. "Why didn't I make him retreat.....?" she asked into the quiet of the night. "If I had...." She felt her cheeks get wet again as she cried. She quickly tried to get it together. She didn't want Asuka even more upset than she already was. She didn't know when exactly she fell asleep. She knew she got there by way of crying till she simply couldn't keep her eyes open. Her dreams were troubled, as to be expected. Full of disturbing images of Unit-01 lying crippled on the ground, the Angel devouring most of it's body, then pulling Shinji free and crushing his body before throwing him like a ragdoll into and through a building nearby. Everyone in the control room had been silent when that had happened. No one moved. Asuka had gone mad and slaughtered the Angel in Unit-02 after witnessing that event. When Unit-01 went over to try and help her during the struggle, Asuka had made her Eva backhand the other pilot's Eva to the ground. Afteer tearing the Angel apart literally limb from limb, there was another silence, followed by the sound of crying. Rei had just sat there on the ground watching everything unfold. It was an event that even upset her. She felt a single tear fall from her eye. The next dream wasn't as bad....considering. Everyone (The three Eva pliots, herself, Ritsuko, and even Kensuke and Touji) was relaxing on a beach. A nice tropical climate. She coud feel the wind blowing through her long dark purple hair. Everythign was fine until THE Angel, the one that had pulled off the feat of killing the Third Child, rose up slowly from the sandy area in from of them. It grabbed Shinji and with a sickening crunch, snapped all his bones. It threw his body right onto her. She looked down, saw the spinal cord jutting out the side of his neck, and screamed. She jolted awake, trying to suppres the urge to take the scream from her dream into awareness. She was covered in sweat, and she had apparently cried a bit more in her sleep. She glanced at a clock. 4:35AM At least she had slept for a good 6 hours. She sighed and wondered if she should go check on Asuka. Shaking her head, she rolled onto her side. She wasn't looking forward to tomorrow. With a quick prayer, she closed her eyes. She had the feeling it would be a long night. ---------------------------- -- Reggy-kun "MITCHELL!" ---- From: The Lone Gunman Subject: [Eva][FanFic] And then.... part 3 Notes: The longest, and, from my viewpoint, the hardest to make. I wrote it and part 2 nearly side by side for fairly obvious reasons. I needed some scenes to match up. I'm still thinking of who I'll be doing for parts 4 and 5. Anyone want any char in particular? Lemme know. All the comments, flames, blah blah, you know the deal; Regulus@DigiCrom.con I'll stop babbling now ^_^ -------- And Then... Part 3... "Asuka" Katsuragi drove herself and Asuka back home. Both of them silent the whole way. She was staring off into space contemplating the day's events. She just couldn't believe it. Why did it have to be him? The only one other than Misato who she actually knew really cared? She would've kept right on thinking if it wasn't for Misato gently tapping her shoulder. "Asuka...we're home." They both walked in, neither saying anything more. What could be said? She thought over that fact for a bit, sitting down at the end of the table opposite the Major. She sighed inaudibly and spoke. "Why?" Misato looked up. "Why what?" Asuka had crossed her arms and laid her head in between. "Why Shinji?" Her voice was softer than she had intended it to be. She sounded so distant. She found it hard to believe it was really hers. Misato, who had been thinking about Asuka's question opened her mouth and said in reply, "It....was just his time I guess..." /WHAT?!/ Her mind was set ablaze. That was her answer?! "His TIME?!" Asuka exploded, raising her head, her eyes full of fire. "HIS TIME?! He was fourteen years old! What the hell kind of justice is THAT?!" "Asuka, calm down, I..." She balled her hands up tight, drawing a small amount of blood. She didn't feel the pain at all. "Like hell I will!" she yelled, slamming her fist to the table with a thunk. "He shouldn't've been taken god dammit! Not this soon!" She slunk down in her seat. /Not....him.....God, why did it have to be Shinji? WHY?!! Why did you take him from me?!/ She sat there quietly for at least a minute. Misato stared at her in shock. /....Not the boy I loved to torture.....not the boy I was...friend's with.....not the boy I.../ When the 14 year old finally lifted her head, Misato saw tears in her eyes. /I..../ Misato frowned as she looked at the Second Child. Asuka stood up and took a step. /...I loved../ The thought hit her hard. She stood and ran to Misato, crying hard. The older just put her arms around the younger, trying to comfort the poor girl. "God, Misato....I cared so much about him....I just didn't want anyone to know....I loved him, I really really did...." Misato felt her own eyes start to water. "I know.....he was so sweet....a bit apologetic at times, yes...but it was his way....." The two stood and cried their feelings out to one another. Misato finally sighed. "We....should probably get to bed, Asuka.....there's still a few things at NERV we need to handle....and with the way this day's been, we're going to need every minute of sleep we can get." She Eva pilot could only nod. She had poured her heart out to Misato. Now that Shinji was gone, she was the only one she could trust with her feelings. Asuka slid the screen back and walked into her living area. She laid in bed and, as the purple haired one turned to go off to bed herself, she whispered, "Promise you won't ever leave me like he did, Misato..." All the Major did was nod, and give her a re-assuring smile. Asuka rolled onto her side, facing away from the sliding screen. She slowly dozed off. Her sleeping time was filled by nightmares though. Each worse than the one before it. Somehow Shinji was getting killed in every one of them. It didn't help that the final one was a retelling of the actual battle. The three Evas had been deployed against it. The large, winged Angel had lumbered around a building on the other side of Tokyo-3. Unit-01 had been the closest, and Shinji's sync ratio had been highest, which Asuka had been grilling him about ever since. He had snuck up behind the Angel, and, with a yell from the pilot, Unit-01 lept onto it's back. The Angel had quickly retaliated, fliping Shinji in front of him, and growling. It stretched it's arms out to the sides, unleashing claws that must've been 8 or 9 feet long at least, on each hand. It charged at Eva 01 quickly. Shinji shot at it. Just his luck, it had been empty. The last thing he noticed was the Angel leaping at him, jaws open wide. Asuka and Rei sat poised behind structures, looking on in horror, both too shocked to do anything at all. Then it happened. It ripped open the entry plug and dumped an unconscious Shinji into it's giant hand. From Asuka's poistion, it looked like it celnched a fist quickly. Then....it threw him. That was the last thing the Second Child lost it. Seeing him hit the building, knowing full well he couldn't possibly survive. She had caught the Angel offguard, slashing and flailing at it with the Prog Knife. Ayanami was just sitting there through the whole ordeal, eyes wide. She had never felt fear like this in her life. As Asuka ripped the Angel's head off and held it triumphantly above her Eva's head, she said something to Rei, in a voice that, to everyone listening, sounded like she had gone mad. "Get Shinji." Asuka drug the head of the Angel behind her in the Eva, walking over to Rei's new position, clearing debris away from the hole he created when he impacted. She pulled his lifeless, twisted body from the carnage. Asuka took a closer look. His neck had been twisted so badly his head was turned around backwards, hanging limp. From Eva-00 to the NERV control room, everyone heard a low noise, slowly escalate into a scream that could've waken the dead. If Shinji could possibly wake up. He would. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" Asuka sat up, trying her best not to contonue screaming. She whimpered. She turned over onto her back and stared at the ceiling. "Shinji....I know it's too late.....but I love you." She whispered her words into the blackness of the room. She has hoping, somewhere up in Heaven, Shinji could hear her words. She felt her tears swelling up as she once again tried to rest. It was going to be a rough night.
